The Malbork Castle Museum has been building a permanent amber collection since its establishment in 1961 on the initiative of its management and staff. It was originally to be made up of contemporary wares, but in 1964 a magnificent amber-lined box was purchased in Cracow, probably by the Gdansk amber maker Michael Redlin, which marked the beginning of a magnificent modern collection.
The exhibition now occupies the renovated cellars of the east wing of the Middle Castle, which formerly served as a warehouse. The showcases feature magnificent amber lumps, works by old masters as well as author's contemporary jewelry.
